Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our fundraising page.

As some of you may know I work at a sight loss charity that is very close to my heart, the Vision Foundation. I have decided there is no better time to take on a fundraising challenge for my charity than during the COVID-19 crisis, when many blind and partially sighted people need our help more than ever before.

This month was meant to be a big fundraising month for my charity - but with the London Marathon postponed and our charity shops shut - the Baxter's are taking action.  So we've set ourselves the target of covering the London Marathon distance between our little legs during our daily exercise slot on Sunday 26th April 2020 (the date the Marathon was originally scheduled for).  I imagine Carl and I will end up with a variety of little legs on our shoulders on route but we'll aim for a five mile walk (leaving early doors so we keep safe) which is a big deal for the littlest of us.  I may wear ear plugs given the potential moaning that will occur.

And why Vision Foundation?  Not just because it's the charity I work for.  Because I truly believe that blind and partially sighted people are falling through gaps at this time of social distancing. They are not included in the ‘vulnerable’ government categories and as such are afforded little protection and support during this time. Reports of loneliness are higher than ever before and essential tasks such as food shopping have become almost impossible for the visually impaired community, who are unable to ask for guiding assistance due to social distancing rules.

That is why I have signed up my family of 5 (6 if you include the dog!) to take on the #TwoPointSixChallenge in support of the Vision Foundation. On Sunday 26th April, we will be covering the 26-mile distance of the London Marathon to raise as much as we can to rebuild lives, strengthen sight loss services and ensure blind and partially sighted people are not forgotten when they need our help most.

We would be very grateful if you could sponsor us for this marathon challenge. Not only is this a huge challenge for us, but by donating you will be making a direct and positive impact on many lives. Thank you!
