We work with local Kenyan people to educate and empower vulnerable girls

Story

Anatalia, Val and a few friends on #OurTeamKenya will be going the distance to help raise vital funds so that girls in Homa Bay, Kenya can go to school and access support to stay in education.

What are we doing?

On 29 May... Anatalia will be walking an incredible 10km in Kenya from the Twende Pamoja Library in Ndhiwa Town to Kabodo Primary School. Anatalia has rallied a great group of #OurTeamKenya to walk with her and the team include: Ruth; Zulear; Bonnie, Winnie; Erick; Lydia; Adelide; Vera; Collins; Ephy; Vivian; Zahra; Jacob and Vin!

Meanwhile in the UK, Val will be doing her first ever 5km fundraising run using the park run course around Druridge Bay Country Park!

''Personally I am excited to walk a 10km because I am all for the community empowerment and transformation! Also to inspire and get involved in any activity that may make my community gain.'' - Anatalia, Ndhiwa

Why are we doing this challenge?

The past month has seen a devastating hit to Team Kenya's fundraising ambitions for 2021. Huge UK government cuts in their overseas aid, including to their vital funding earmarked for very small charities like Team Kenya will have a lasting negative impact on the education and gender equality for girls in Kenya. For Team Kenya specifically, the loss of £50,000 in funding, that had been shortlisted for under the Small Charities Challenge Fund, significantly impacts 1,300 vulnerable girls & their families in Ndhiwa and their ability to ensure safety and resilience for some of the world’s most vulnerable girls facing disproportionate social & economic barriers to education.

With support from Twende Pamoja girls have the opportunity to successfully return to school and overcome increased vulnerabilities due to COVID-19 restrictions. Team Kenya and Twende Pamoja have empowered over 20,000 girls through education over the past twelve years. This is how they know that with a fully funded project, girls will remain in school. We share their vision for all girls in vulnerable and marginalised communities in Homa Bay to complete at least 12 years of education in a safe & supportive environment.

''I am doing my first  5km run to support Anatalia, Roseline and all other inspirational young women and girls in Ndhiwa so they achieve their potential and continue their journey to transform their community!'' - Val, Newcastle

Why should you support us?

Gender Equality is only possible when we educate and empower girls around the globe. Team Kenya and Twende Pamoja are committed at a grassroot level and your support will have direct impact on the future of a young girl in Kenya.

'''Transformation of the community. It has always been my dream, but I realized I can’t do it alone, we need to work as a team, now you’re [part of] the team, kindly let's do it together.''
- Roseline, Ndhiwa
