A chance encounter on a Welsh mountain has led to this fundraiser where a personal tragedy  for a Rhyl family will, hopefully, provide a huge health benefit for the North Wales community.

In April last year, Duncan Macauley, a popular Rhyl man was walking on the hills above Dyserth with his friends Paul Fairhurst and Alun Lloyd. Sadly Duncan, a hard working family man took ill, and despite the efforts of his friends, he passed away on the hill leaving a gaping hole in the local community where Duncan was a much loved and respected figure. A heart attack being diagnosed as the cause of death.

By an incredible chance, Paul was climbing Y Garn, a 3000+ feet mountain in Snowdonia when he bumped into Julie Starling. Intrigued by the huge flag that Julie was carrying, the pair got into a conversation. Julie explained about  "Keep the Beats", an NHS charity that provided defibrillators for use in the community. Paul then told Duncan's story and the seeds of an idea began to form.

The Snowdonia National Park has 15 peaks over 3000 feet high. A popular, but extremely difficult challenge is to summit these 15 peaks within a 24 hour period. Being on the slightly mature side of life, Paul and Alun realised that this challenge would be beyond them and so have decided to take on the challenge in a slightly different way.

The aim of the fundraiser is to summit all 15 peaks at the same time, but, by different groups all heading off separately on the various paths.

The event, which has the blessing of Duncan's wife Liz and sons Kyle and Sam will raise money for the purchase of defibrillators which will used to help and hopefully save lives for the residents and visitors to North WALES.
