We support our local hospitals to give our patients the best possible care

Story

I would be most grateful if you would sponsor me for participating in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship event by donating to this JustGiving page.  I am raising funds for Morecambe Bay Hospitals and the Imaging department at the RLI.

We would like to use your sponsorship towards purchasing a portable language line device which will provide quick and reliable access to translators for non English-speaking patients, as well as sign language for deaf patients.  This need has become more urgent since the Ukrainian War with refugees using our service and will provide a safer environment for our patients, as well as preventing any delays for everyone.

I competed in my first triathlon, which comprises three sports - swim, bike and run in a continuous timed event, in 2012 and was hooked.

I first competed in sprint distance events (400m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) and then Olympic distance events (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run) eventually competing as an age group amateur for the GB team.

I then heard of a friend doing an Ironman Triathlon, and the distances seeming unreal - a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike, and finishing with a 26.2 mile marathon run.  All this has to be completed within 17 hours.  This was to be my next challenge, and I completed Ironman Wales in 2016.

Ironman Triathlon hosts a World Championship event in the iconic location of Kona, Hawaii.  Age group amateurs have to qualify for the event by finishing in the top five in their age group from an Ironman race, and places are highly competitive.  This became my dream goal and I managed to qualify from racing Ironman UK in Bolton in 2021.

I am very excited to be racing in the World Championships in October which will be even more challenging due to the conditions of the heat, humidity and strong winds associated with the volcanic island of Hawaii. I would very much like it if you could sponsor me for the event and help inspire me for when the going gets tough and raise money for our local Hospital.
