Story

Please help, we are trying to raise the funds to purchase a new off-road all-terrain powered wheelchair for our daughter Kizzy.

Kizzy is 13 years old and has Quadriplegic Spastic Cerebral Palsy, which means she is a full-time wheelchair user.

We love family days out, walking the dog in the woods and on the beach, but standard chairs really struggle on rough ground and soft sand beaches are just impossible. This means Kizzy finds it hard (and often frustrating) to get out and about like all of the other children.

We have tried various different ways to get Kizzy to where she wants to go, but she is longing for the independence and freedom one of these chairs could give her. This chair would allow her to explore the woods and beaches without any worry of getting stuck or the chair breaking.

Imagine, as a child, to never have the feeling of freedom roaming about on a beach, to never have any independence from your parents on day out, to constantly be told ‘sorry you can’t go there because of your wheelchair’ – this unfortunately is the reality for Kizzy. We live in an amazing place, surrounded by beautiful countryside and many walks right on our doorstep, but unfortunately Kizzy is unable to access these due to the capabilities of her powered wheelchair. For such a strong, adventurous and desperate to be independent girl this is a cruel reality.

And so, we have researched the best option for Kizzy and discovered the X8 powerchair, it is in her words ‘AWESOME!!!’ It will literally take Kizzy anywhere she can dream to go, beaches, sand dunes, forests, rocky terrain, steps, this chair literally will go over virtually any terrain that exists.

The only problem is these chairs are very expensive and you don’t get second hand ones, we have been raising money by selling a couple of old wheelchairs and other bits and pieces but with a new chairs costing £12230 we are  struggling to get enough money together.

With help from A Smile For a Child we are hoping to raise the remaining money required to get Kizzy one of these amazing chairs so we can continue our family adventures.

Any help and support would be much appreciated.
