Please help us raise £58,000 for Tree of Hope to help Gabriel Masih-Gill receive SDR.
We are trying to raise money so our son Gabriel can have a life changing operation in USA - Selective Dorsal Rhyzotomy (SDR). Gabriel is 13 years of age. He was born prematurely at 6 months 5 days. He was very poorly. We did not know if he would survive or not. He weighed 3lb 6oz. We did not see Gabriel until he was 5 hours old - did not hold him until he was 9 days old. He was in hospital for 2 months and came home on New Years Day 2000! Gabriel was diagnosed with Diplegia Cerebral Palsy when he was 14 months old. It broke our hearts. We educated ourselves about CP so we knew what we were facing and how to cope and do the best we can for Gabe's. Gabriel can not walk without his Rolator (walking frame). He uses a manual wheelchair and a motorised one. He gets tired very quickly. He is in mainstream school and will be doing 7 GCSE's. He loves learning/school!! Gabriel had botox injected into his calfs and groin to loosen his muscles when he was 4 - 8 years of age (once a year). He had a major hip operation when he was 9. His hips were broken and had to be put back into place. He had eight plates inserted into his knees to help with getting his feet flat to the floor when he was 11. Worse times for us all. Gabriel is such a well mannered polite, bright chatty, young lad - rarely moans about doing physio (everyday). If Gabriel could have this operation - it would change all our lives especially Gabriel's. He would be able to toilet/bath/shower himself, walk, kick a football and do karate moves!!!!!! His younger brother Lucien said "I would be able to walk with Gabe and hold hands and Gabriel could go on my trampoline with me, and Gabe could take me to the shop to buy me my sweets"!!!!!!! We are very grateful the way Gabriel is and copes with his CP but we would love for Gabriel to be able to walk even if he had to hold our hands (which is my dream). I am appealing for everyone to help in way they can to help us raise this money to make Gabriel's dream come true. We know it is alot of money - but when it's money verses Gabriel's quality of life - we believe it is achievable. With GOD blessing us and Gabriel's strong faith this will happen.
UPDATE: Gabriel went to Scotland (Sept 2013) for muscle training strengthening. On the 3rd day of training his right femour bone broke. We discovered that Gabriel has server Osteopenia (weak bones). Inevitable really as he is unable to walk. So........ Gabriel has been put on a drug to strengthen his bones called Pamidronate - this involves him having to go into hospital for the infusions for 2 days every 3 months for 2 years - nearly completed 1 year already!!! Gabriel has recovered from the broken bone and is going back to Scotland this Sept 2014. When he's back he has to have more surgery - this is to remove all the metal plates he has in his body. 2 hip plates and his leg fracture plate!!! Not sure how long the recovery will take.
UPDATE: Gabriel will have completed 2 years of Pamidronate infusions in Dec 2015. Then onwards and upwards continuing with SDR Dream. Gabe attends SDR Fitness in Wales and is doing fab. He is off the Education curriulum to concentrate on getting stronger ready for SDR. He swims every am and then a 2 hour physio programme. He has a rest on Sunday and attends Church!
Thank you all for taking your time to read this. (Kept it as short as possible too)!!!!! Kind Regards,
Samuel & Paula (Gabriel's mum&Dad),
Gabriel & Lucien (Gabe's younger brother).
Should we exceed the target amount (or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.

We need to continue fundraising for him for his physio at SDR Wales with Mark & Laura - these 2 special people are the one's who will get Gabe walking.
UPDATE July 2018 - Gabriel is doing really well - he is pleased he had SDR - he said he feels Loose & Free!!!! Amazing. He is continuing to get stronger and still fundraising for Gabe to attend SDR Fitness Wales to help him progress.
