Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Born  Too Soon was set up by myself and other families and staff in 1985. I have had six children two of whom Jack and Tom sadly died.  I am blessed with 4 surviving children Patrick, Michelle Catherine and Caroline all of whom needed care in the first class Maternity and Neonatal Unit at Kingston Hospital.  We as parents recognised a need not only for extra support for families but also for the staff and the equipment needed to be updated.  It was our way of saying thank you to the NHS.  In 1985 only the parents were allowed on the unit whether your baby had been admitted because of prematurity or illness.  It’s a little known fact that up to 10% of all babies delivered throughout the UK require some form of care on a Neonatal. Unit. Unless you are expecting twins, triplets or have complications during your pregnancy you will not even know about the neonatal Unit.

We care for small preterm babies some born as early as 23 weeks weighing as little as 600 Grams..  We also care for unwell newborn infants requiring specialist care.  We care for up to 18 babies at a time and on average care for up to 600 precious and vulnerable babies every year.

It can be a very scary time when your baby/babies are taken to the Neonatal Unit.  Our aims are to provide non medical information and support to families. We take photographs of your precious baby, and where possible get you involved in the care of your baby.  Some of our babies spend hours, days, weeks and in some cases months on the Neonatal Unit.

Bereaved Families

Sadly not all our babies get to go home and we support bereaved families both on the unit and at home with the help of The Paediatric Outreach nursing team who provide loving  care at home with the support of the purchase of equipment by Born Too Soon

Daisy Room - Bereaved Families

Born Too Soon together with The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society and the Maternity and Neonatal Unit were involved with setting up The Daisy Room in memory of Baby Daisy Wilson which is a dedicated Bereavement Facility opened by #AmandaHolden •.  This facility allows families to make precious memories which will last them a lifetime.  We are only given one opportunity to get it right.  We also hold a Babies Memorial Service in partnership with The Hospital Chaplaincy, Maternity and Neonatal Unit and Bereavement  Midwife Jo Bull.

The children of today are our future tomorrow. We endeavour to include the whole family included and involved in care  of their baby/babies and every single member of the Neonatal and Maternity Unit ensure that the best possible care is given.   Any support is greatly appreciated.

We are indebted to The Stage Golfing Society for choosing Born Too Soon 36 years ago and every year since.  We remember with love Jo Carter a lovely Irish Lady who did 18 holes in complete silence fir Born Too Soon that very first year.  Sadly Jo died recently and we send our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.  A very special Lady.  Over the years we have had so many lovely members of The Stage Golfing Society playing for Born Too Soon and also becoming Patrons. I am humbled to have recently been made an Honorary Member of The Stage Golfing Society .  Thank you to John Peters, The President, Captain and Stage Members and John Maguire General Manager if The Richmond Golf Club and Captain Tamsin Loke for their continued support.  Thank you for helping us to make a difference.

We remember all the past members who have sadly died  but during their lifetime supported Born Too Soon.
