Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year I am walking with my "condiment" friend Stephen Salt raising funds in support of Emunah's project for Afula Boy`s Home in Northern Israel, where ‘at risk` children, some orphaned, some abused, all neglected, are given the help they need to literally save their lives. The home is the urgent renovation and is in a terrible state. The building is more than 60 years old and has been home to hundreds of boys. The conditions the children are now living in are very basic and in urgent need of upgrading to meet modern standards. Just like our children, these children need a safe, nurturing, secure home environment with their own personal space, a bed, a desk to study at and a cupboard for their belongings, and bathroom facilities which afford appropriate privacy. We have managed to obtain a matched funding pledge so every pound raised will be doubled.

With your help Emunah can provide these much needed facilities and living accommodation for the boys helping them to heal and to feel valued, just as we hope our own children do, so they can go on to a better future.

THE WALK

Starting at 9.00am from the Chalkwell Station end of the seafront; Walking along the seafront to the Harvester Restaurant, Shoeburyness. Stop for a 15 minute break before returning along the seafront back to the cul-de-sac at Chalkwell, then onto the  Jewish Community Centre in Cobham Road where there will be a bagel brunch ( supplied by JustKosherSWHC Shop) to which everyone is invited. Please confirm your attendance so we know how many to cater for.

About Geoffrey (photo in Jerusalem)
Moving into the area exactly 20 years ago, Geoffrey Pepper has been a stalwart of the Southend and Westcliff Jewish community. He was elected into one of the two warden positions at the Southend and Westcliff Hebrew Congregation synagogue and is still one of the current wardens` after serving thirteen consecutive years in the role. He has served on the Board of Management for 15 years. The time consuming and challenging role of warden would be more than enough for most but once again Geoffrey finds time this year to take a lead role in a fund raising activity for Emunah. He is looking forward to reviving his walking partnership with his "condiment" friend Stephen Salt.
