Story
Good friends and colleagues Peter Greenham and Francisco Lopez will be riding the 100 miles for Ride London-Surrey in July 2018 raising money to support the Bone Marrow charity Anthony Nolan on behalf of Beatrice Greenham.
Pete's Daughter Beatrice (also known as BB), was first Diagnosed with Leukemia in June 2013 and after a long treatment in September 2015 we got the news that she could come off treatment and she was cured. From that point she started to learn all the things that she had missed out on, like riding a bike and learning to swim. She was going from strength to strength. In February 2017 one of her regular blood tests results came back low which was a sign of relapse, A subsequent bone marrow biopsy proved that her blood was 99% leukemia again...It had returned a full 18 months after finishing of treatment....even the doctors were shocked, she had relapsed.
Beatrice although in remission again for a 2nd time, completed 5 months of Chemo in Leicester Royal Infirmary and trial immune-therapy treatment this year, but unfortunately needed a Bone Marrow transplant in order to have a chance of complete cure.
Her 10 year old Sister was found to be a 100% Bone marrow match at 4:1 odds and was she successfully given as a bone marrow transplant in September 2017 at the Royal Marsden Children's Hospital in Sutton and was discharged at the end of October 2017 with twice weekly tests.
Beatrice is doing extremely well, getting stronger each day and returned to School in March 2018 for the first time in over a year. She had been confirmed at the latest blood tests to be 100% Donor Blood and is now off all immune suppressants. She is now on monthly blood tests and trying to get back to some sort of normality.
Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. They do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells, to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. They also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. They won’t stop until they save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings them closer to that day.
