Attempting a huge challenge for 2017, running 12 marathons in 12 months!! Supporting two charities Lynch syndrome cancer gene & Poole Hospital Bowel Cancer screening dept.
These charities are close to my heart! Lynch Syndrome is a charity raising awareness about the cancer gene affecting so many people. If diagnosed people can have regular testing to detect cancer much early on and hopeful save lives. My close friend was diagnosed a few years back and since has had preventative measures to lesson her chance of getting cancer. My nephew who lost his father, my brother in law 10yrs ago to bowel cancer, will turn 18 and will be able to discuss having tests shortly. Then there is the charity Poole Hospital which half the funds raised will be able to go to the radiology dept in oncology, for again 'early detection' on bowel cancer.
So running 12 marathons is a huge fete for me, even though I love running and more so with my local running club Lytchett Manor Striders. So i'm under no illusions this goal is a huge undertaking but minor, compared to the suffering of people diagnosed with cancer or the gene for cancer. If I can raise awareness and money for two wonderful charities throughout 2017, then i would have achieved something more than my love for running by aiding in support for others I love dearly too.
