Did you know that bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the developed world? However, for some reason, more funding goes towards other cancers such as breast cancer, which has a much lower death rate. Doesn't make sense does it?!
I watched the last London Marathon by Chris' hospital bed the day after his operation to remove his bowel cancer. The cancer had been growing for more than 3 years and he had been turned away 2 previous times by his doctor!! He was told he was too fit, too young, a good weight and didn't smoke, so it couldn't be anything else but haemoroids....er....no! By the time they found the cancer, his colon was almost blocked, he was regularly bleeding when he went to the loo, he hardly ever had a solid poo and he was beginning to show obvious signs of anemia (feeling dizzy at the gym, tired all time etc).
We didn't take the signs seriously because we were uneducated, the doctors didn't take it seriously either, so now I believe it's up to charities like Beating Bowel Cancer to ensure that ALL men and women, old AND young are aware of the symptoms.

The London Marathon will be a year after Chris' diagnosis. He has gone through surgery, chemotherapy and a stoma reversal surgery. Soon after this event, we will be keeping our fingers crossed at his one year CAT scan that nothing has returned.
PLEAAAAAAASSSE donate and help to make a difference for people like Chris.
