We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

The word ‘dementia’ describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. These changes are often small to start with, but for someone with dementia they have become severe enough to affect daily life. A person with dementia may also experience changes in their mood or behaviour.

Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease or a series of strokes. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, but not the only one.

There are more than 520,000 people in the UK with Alzheimer’s disease.

Working in GP surgery I have seen over the years how dementia and its related diseases can and has affected  some of our patients and the impact it has had –  it can be and is very cruel.  I have lost dear friends over recent years who have had their life's  blighted or affected  by the impact of this disease – a distressing and debilitating one - life is unfair - more recently another friend has been diagnosed -  we all have to be prepared for what life throws at us.

To witness people having their lives turned upside with something they have very little control over is truly awful – by jumping for Alzheimers Society  it is my wish that in future people suffering may have the trauma of the disease eased a little through much needed resources and support which the Society can offer and continue to offer.

I will be jumping on the 12th August 2018 and the countdown has begun – I have jumped previously and it was the most amazing experience and helped me live one of my dreams  –I will be joined this time by my friend Lesley who will be ticking one off of her ‘bucket list’ also  - we are lucky to be able to have the opportunity to do this - by reliving the experience my hope is that money raised will go to support those affected by dementia and hopefully  help to them to full-fill some of their dreams too.

Please donate as much as you are able and help us to reach the target.

Many thanks in anticipation.
