Fundraising for The Dove Service

October the 26th 2018 marks the 4th birthday of our beautiful daughter Lily-Grace.
For those of you who don’t already know our story our first born, Lily-Grace, was sadly stillborn in 2014 due to a tragic accident involving the umbilical cord wrapping around her neck. The very thing that was meant to keep her alive tragically took her life before it even began. Following an uncomplicated pregnancy I attended our local hospital with reduced fetal movements only to be told the devastating news that our babys heart had already stopped beating. I was 33 weeks pregnant. I was sent home and told to return to the hospital 2 days later to be induced. I gave birth to Lily the following day. She was perfect.
Following the death of our daughter, both myself and my husband Wayne attended bereavement counselling at The Dove Service. I found that it really helped me to be able to speak about Lily and the unimaginable shock and trauma that we had gone through.
We have since been blessed with our rainbow baby, Phoebe, but pregnancy after loss and parenting after loss are also a huge rollercoaster of emotions, fear and anxiety.
Almost 4 years on and I am back at The Dove Service. I have found this past year quite difficult to get through at times. The smallest of things can be a trigger for your grief and anxiety. Once again, the support that I have received has been invaluable and it has really helped me to be able to speak to someone about how I am feeling.
The Dove Service is the only grief support charity in Stoke-on-Trent & North Staffordshire, providing services to people within the community from the age of 4+ who are experiencing issues relating to bereavement, loss or life-changing illness.
The impact of bereavement isn’t always immediate, sometimes people start to struggle months or even years down the line, or just feel very stuck in their grief when it feels as though everyone else has moved on. I can particularly relate to this myself.
Without access to bereavement counselling grieving parents can struggle to move on. Many will develop depression or other mental health issues as a result of this. Accessing counselling can help you to make sense of what you are experiencing, regaining a sense of control, express your emotions, and empower you to make the changes you want to see in your life.
The Dove Service only receive a small amount of funding to deliver their service and they greatly reply upon donations and their own fundraising to keep the core services running.
