Story

The Ratcliffe Spitfire (www.RatcliffeSpitfire.com) is an ambitious project, led by our Head of Art Mr Dominic Berry, to build a full-size replica Supermarine Spitfire Mk1.  When complete the Ratcliffe Spitfire will be exactly accurate from the outside and will have a faithfully produced cockpit that can be climbed into and interacted with. One of the reasons for undertaking the project is to honour the hundreds of aircrew who flew from Ratcliffe Aerodrome during WWII as part of the Air Transport Auxiliary. The project requires £50-100,000 in order to build a watertight hangar to allow the fuselage section to be built and thereafter to act as an Educational Centre for school children so that they can sit in a full size Spitfire. It will also act as a museum for the original parts of Paul Baillon's Spitfire, which crashed on Salisbury Plain and was dug up in 2013 by the MoD.
