Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am the owner of Readymoney Beach Shop. On Friday 27 October visitor to Readymoney Cove sadly lost his life to cardiac arrest, a devastating outcome for his family. In the UK approximately 30,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest outside hospital each year. Following a cardiac arrest, chance of survival decreases by around 10% per minute. As such it is vital that emergency treatment begins as soon as possible. Outside of the city, the chance of an ambulance arriving in less than 8 minutes is remote. But if a public access defibrillator is nearby, survival rates as high as 75% can be achieved. Although there are a number of public access defibrillators in Fowey, none of them are sufficiently close to Readymoney Cove to be of assistance. Obviously the hope is that we would never need to use it but having one on site provides reassurance for the future and the hope that should such an incident occur in the future, loss of life could potentially be avoided by the use of the defibrillator.

We are working with Cornish charity Coast Medic to fundraise for the machine. Coast Medic is run by a South West Ambulance Service paramedic and works with the ambulance service to ensure that the public access cabinets they install are registered with the ambulance service. Coast Medic will also provide the necessary training and on-going back up support.

Readymoney Beach Shop will meet the installation costs associated with the AED together with the minimal annual running and maintenance costs, including the cost of any replacement pads if the machine is used. I am setting up this fundraising page in order to cover the cost of the machine and cabinet suitable for that location. There are a number of other on-going projects in Fowey to raise money for defibrillators and should the fundraising total be exceeded, it would be wonderful to be able to install another machine at an additional location within the town to ensure as full coverage as possible.
