We fund care, campaigning and research to achieve a world free from MND

Story

In 2003 my family received the devastating news that my dad age 49 had Motor Neurone Disease. At the time, prior to diagnosis I thought he was just being a bit silly and exagerrating his symptoms. I questioned how a fit looking man who could pick up his 3 year old grandaughter be unable to do simple things like tie shoe laces and do up buttons. 15 months later my dad who was a very independant, proud and well respected man died aged 50.

My dad never lost his pride or his need for independance even though he was unable to eat, speak or attend to most of the daily things you and I take for granted. Luckily for him he did not suffer long years of illness and even through his decreased mobility and struggling to breath he was still trying to get to work where he was a managing director two days before he died.

Most of you who know me will know I'm a keen runner but I have never run a marathon before. This is a massive undertaking for me as I will be pushing myself both physically and emotionally as I will be doing it for my dad who I hope would be proud of what I have achieved. I'm hoping to raise £1000 for the MNDA to help fund further research so people in the future will not have to go through the difficulties and loss my family did. For those unlucky enough to have MND or be affected by it I hope it might go some way to helping them through.
