Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've suffered from depression and anxiety for well over twenty years - I may not always have known it by that name, but it was always there. Things are still wavering - I have bad days almost every week, but I'm still hanging on in there with a lot of help and support from medical professionals, my family and friends, and with support from my work colleagues and the great network of people I've met through being more open and honest about my own mental health.
I created Redefining Resilience because I believe it's critical to the wellbeing of young people and adults of all ages to be able to take care of their mental health - something everyone of us has - without fear of stigma or lack of support. Redefining Resilience challenges the perception that someone cannot thrive professionally or personally because of a mental health problem.
I'm excited to spread this message to as many organisations (businesses, community groups, universities and schools) and individuals as possible to generate greater understanding, support, and respect for everyone with a connection to mental health. One in four of us will experience a mental health problem at some point in our lives, and I believe that means that four in four of us know someone with mental health challenges, right now.
I've lost friends to depression and have many other friends whose battle to stay mentally well has caused them immense pain and suffering to the point where they did not want to live any longer. I have at times struggled with this myself, but I also know how helpful a supportive word, gesture or environment can be to help people like me who have depression or a mental health problem get help and get on with living our lives as we want.
