We work with rural deprived communities to give children a better start in life

Story

I'm running the Cardiff Half Marathon next month, to raise money for a fantastic charity - Lively Minds - founded by our friend, Alison Naftalin.

Lively Minds works to ensure that children in highly deprived communities in Ghana and Uganda receive quality education and care in their early years - the age that makes such a big difference to their future development.

They do this by training and empowering uneducated & marginalised Mothers to run educational Play Schemes for all the pre-schoolers in their community, and to provide better care at home.

Although Lively Minds is a relatively young (founded in 2008) and small charity, it is phenomenally effective. In its first year and for just £3,000, Lively Minds set up 10 Play Schemes reaching over 1,200 children and training over 250 volunteers. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, with Alison and the charity receiving numerous awards, being featured as a case study by The Center for Education Innovations and UNICEF, appearing in an article on Early Childhood Development in The Economist, to mention just a few examples.

Please give generously, and help Lively Minds to continue to inspire more and more lively minds.
