Story
Thanks for visiting my London Marathon fundraising page!
Why am I running for The Donkey Sanctuary?...Over the past couple of years, The Donkey Sanctuary has found a special place in my heart. My partner and I made our first visit to the sanctuary in Sidmouth in 2019 to visit our adopted donkey, Timothy, and learned so much about what the Donkey Sanctuary does to help support donkeys and communities not just in the UK, but all over the world. This really opened our eyes to the suffering that many donkeys endure, and the difference they can make to people's lives.
Donkeys contribute so much to humankind all over the world, working tirelessly to prop up entire communities. But many are suffering and need our help right now.
The demand for donkey skins in particular, to produce Ejiao - a traditional Chinese medicine made from donkey-derived gelatin, has generated a significant trade across the globe, causing mass-scale suffering in the process. Recent reports state that half the world’s donkey population could be wiped out in the next five years!
I was horrified to hear this, and that’s why I want to support The Donkey Sanctuary who are trying to tackle this by working in partnership with key players in government, industry and the veterinary community to promote the highest international standards of donkey welfare.
A bit about me...I have always enjoyed keeping fit and running now and again, but completing my first marathon is going to be a totally new and massive challenge for me. Knowing that, with your support, the money I am raising is going to help donkeys and communities all over the world, will keep going through all those cold, dark training runs, and keep me running over that finish line on the day!
Thanks for your support with my London Marathon #TeamDonk Fundraising Challenge! I really appreciate any donations, big or small, to help me on my way to my £2,300 target - your money is going directly to help protect these amazing animals, and the communities they support, all over the world! Thank you!
