Story
My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011. It’s a cruel disease, with no cure. It’s been hard to see this great man, my dad, deteriorate over time but his strength, positivity and will-power is awe-inspiring. He is an inspiration and for that reason, I’ve decided to take on this challenge.
Parkinson’s UK is completely funded by donations. It provides care and support and is in the never-ending quest to find a cure. The money I raise during this challenge will help fund their support for Parkinson’s sufferers, just like my dad.
Want to know how your donations will be helping Parkinson's UK ?
🔸£20 funds an hour of care from a specialist Parkinson's nurse
🔹£48 funds a clinical researcher for 2 hours
🔸£140 pays for 10 helpline advisers to provide support and information.
So £1000 - that is a massive 50 hours of care from a specialist Parkinson's nurse.
And this is the challenge. 390 miles or 629 kilometres (I prefer miles...it seems less!) from Venice to Rome in 5 days in September 2018...on my bicycle, Betty. I am closing in on 40; somewhat out of shape; and have only ever done leisurely “Sunday bike rides”.
Follow my adventures over on my Facebook page Rich’s Rialto to Rome over the months to come - I’m sure I’ll fall off my bike and I envisage a lot of very achy legs but I’ll keep going, with your support and help. Donate where you can and share my story - I’ll do the rest.
Much love, Rich
