We are the childhood cancer experts working to improve treatment and care

Story

We are teachers at Little Lever School and one of our students Ethan Browne has been diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia). Ethan is a member of my form and Simon Cordwell is the member of Senior Leadership assigned to Year 9. The school has been fundraising for the charity to show our support for Ethan and we have decided to run the Manchester 10K  this year to show our support and raise further funds for this great cause.

Ethan is a member of my form at school and was recently diagnosed with leukemia over Easter. He is currently receiving treatment and to show our support to him we are running the Manchester 10K on the 20th May. All money raised will go to the 'Children's Cancer and Leukemia Group'. My form have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks and we have already raised over £800 for the charity through cake sales and wristband selling etc and i am immensley proud of all of them and the extra helpers in Year 9.

Children's Cancer and Leukemia Group is a leading children's cancer charity and the UK and Ireland's professional association for those involved in the treatment and care of children with cancer. Each week in the UK and Ireland, more than 30 children are diagnosed with cancer. We bring together professionals to ensure all children receive the best possible treatment and care. We support young patients and their families with our award winning, expert information. We fund and support research into childhood cancers.

General Information About Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

KEY POINTS

-Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a type of cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many immature lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell).

-Leukemia may affect red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
Past treatment for cancer and certain genetic conditions affect the risk of having childhood ALL.

Signs of childhood ALL include fever and bruising.
Tests that examine the blood and bone marrow are used to detect (find) and diagnose childhood ALL.

-Certain factors affect prognosis (chance of recovery) and treatment options.
