Story
Since 1842 the RNLI has voluntarily saved 142,200 lives at sea.
Boating was a pastime close to Richard, and remains close to the Chapelow family. When Richard and Victoria were young the family used the Thames to its full effect, kayaking and exploring on their small motor boat. This year the family enjoyed the hot summer weather in their rib on the Solent. It was something that gave the whole family an enormous amount of joy. Richard loved it especially, and was out on the boat any weekend it was free.
Richard's passing on 20 August 2018 was something that no one expected. However we take comfort in the fact that he was doing something he loved, in a placed he loved, with his mates.
The search for Richard went on for sometime. The Portuguese authorities were exceptional in their bravery and professionalism. During the search for Richard the family derived enormous comfort from the Portuguese rescuers and the relationship we built with them.
As with the Portuguese rescuers, the majority of the RNLI are not professionals, they are volunteers. They go out to sea to rescue people in all conditions, a lot of the time they are atrocious, while everyone else is coming in.
We are fundraising for the RNLI in the hope they will be able to continue to provide their support to the next person who's family member goes missing in the water.
Thank you.
