Story

When people first find out that I run long distances they
often ask me if I am raising money for charity.  When I say “no, I just do it for fun.” they usually give me a funny look and start edging away. But as you have found on this occasion I am after your money. I’m doing a sponsored run.

So, on the 24th of July I’ll be setting out to run 105 miles around the Lake District to raise money for EPIC KIDZ. They are a charity who provides grants for volunteer, community and charity groups with a sporting or recreational bias, helping to get kids away from the xbox and out in to the great outdoors. For more details please have a look here https://epickidz.co.uk/about/

This will be my third attempt at the race and score currently stands at Lakeland 100 2. Ricky Nil.

So what is the Lakeland 100?

The Lakeland 100 ‘Ultra Tour of the Lake District’ is the most spectacular long distance trail race which has ever taken place within the UK.

The route encompasses the whole of Lakeland and about of
6300m of ascent. Starting in Coniston the route heads out in a clockwise loop which takes in, Eskdale, Wasdale, Buttermere, Keswick before heading back via Ullswater, Ambleside and Langdale to the finish at Coniston.

The event is continuous in nature, competitors don’t stop or sleep on the route and the winners are generally expected to finish close to
the 20 hour mark. The overall time available for the route is 40 hours

The climb, descent, rugged terrain, darkness and tricky navigation generally ensure a 40-50% failure rate over the 100 mile course. So
a finisher’s medal in the Lakeland 100 is possibly one of the most treasured medals you can own.

The event starts at 6:00pm on Friday 24th of July and the final cut off will be 10:00am Sunday 26th. There will be tracking available which I will share nearer the time.

Many thanks

Ricky
