Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I know there are so many deserving causes and it can seem like you're being asked to donate all the time.
But cancer touches so many people, and unfortunately it came too close to home when I was diagnosed in November 2016 with stage three bowel cancer. That was the beginning of a hugely traumatic, difficult and challenging 18 months of treatment.
- I endured 28 radiotherapy session which sapped me of all strength.
- Six weeks of chemotherapy tablets which made me feel sick every day.
- Overcame sepsis.
- Overcame a c-diff infection.
- Went through major surgery and the weeks of recovery.
- Had four months of chemotherapy, sitting in a chair being poisoned.
- I then had further elective surgery to decrease my chances of the cancer returning.
It was hateful, I'll never get those months of my life back and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But I'm lucky, I'm still here and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone in the NHS who helped me along that path to recovery. Part of the support network included the Macmillan charity, and I want to repay the help.
So it's time to jump back in the saddle and ride 400 miles from the Atlantic coast of France, across the Pyrenees mountains and finish at the Mediterranean.
Fundraising is hugely important to Macmillan because without people doing events, running marathons, climbing mountains, and donating in all the other ways Macmillan wouldn’t exist.
