UPDATE: unfortunately I didn't complete the half-marathon, but dropped out shortly after 10 miles due to exhaustion. More on my blog. Thank you for all your donations and sorry I couldn't complete. Maybe next time!
On Sunday 6th September, I'm power-walking the Bristol Half-Marathon with Walk the Walk to raise money for breast cancer care and research. My mother was successfully treated for breast cancer a few years ago, going through chemotherapy while I was pregnant with her first grandchild. She recovered and is now fit and well and enjoying her grandson. I want to help contribute to the research and care that will make more "happy endings" like ours.
I also needed a challenge to get me exercising regularly. Powerwalking appealed as being lower-impact than running, and easier to fit around childcare than a gym or fitness class. I've trained hard towards this race, and I've definitely "got the bug" for keeping up a regular power-walking regime in future. I've also blogged my training to keep a record and remind myself how far I've come.
