THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED US TO WIN €30,000 FROM EUROPEAN OUTDOOR CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION.
We have hit the first target in our appeal and work has started on the worst areas, but the Roaches still need your help - please donate so we can continue our footpath restoration programme.
The Roaches urgently need your help
An estimated 100,000 visits take place on the Roaches every year. Every single one of these visits uses the footpaths. As a result some paths are in a terrible state - there are areas on the ridge path where the path is more than 15 feet wide and 3 feet deep due to erosion! Soon the paths will offer as much sport to climbers as the rocks themselves!
These erosion scars are ugly, damage the habitat and make access treacherous. They're also getting worse each year as visitors cut new paths to avoid the eroded areas - and who can blame them.
But this problem is reversible. With your help the paths can be restored using traditional upland path techniques that provide a robust walking surface that blends into the natural environment.
As custodian of the Roaches Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is appealing to everyone who has ever enjoyed a visit to the Roaches to donate a few pounds to our footpath appeal. Whether you are a seasoned walker, a climber or just somebody who enjoys taking in the magnificent views this is an opportunity to give a little bit back and make a huge difference to one of Staffordshire's most iconic landscapes.
Every pound raised through this appeal will go directly to restoring footpaths on the Roaches.
