Roadside Motorsport Crew Take On Epynt
On Sunday 31st of May the rallying crew of “Roadside Motorsport” Andy Campling and Ian Williams will compete on their biggest and toughest event in their rallying career “The Welsh Marshes Mini Epynt Stages” run by Herefordshire Motor Club. Held on the Epynt military ranges in Brecon the rallying duo will set out to complete the 8 gruelling stages and cover approximately 45 miles on the all tarmac surface, bringing the car and themselves home in one peace. They will be competing against some top class crews, some of which have prior experience of Epynt, however the crew hope to have a great day’s motor sport predominately raising plenty of money for “Help a South Wales Child”
They are both members of “Forresters Car Club Limited” based in Cwmbran, South Wales. This is where they first met and started rallying at grass roots level, competing in single venue tarmac rally events such as the Patriot stages in Caerwent, Peter Lloyd stages in Pembrey and the EMCOS stages at Down Ampney. Their motivation to take part in rallying is simple - they do it for fun! Make no mistake about it - they are realists and know that there’s no six figure sponsorship deal waiting round the corner for them to compete in the WRC – there lack of talent and age definitely put the kybosh on that!
The name “Roadside Motorsport” came about because their car preparation and servicing has always been carried out on the driveway or roadside in all weathers by themselves.
Co–Driver – Andy Campling
Andy is 35 years old, navigates on events and lives in Newport. Andy is the technical expert in this crew and has the knowledge and know-how in keeping the car serviced and prepared “Just”
Driver – Ian Williams
Ian is 38 years old proud Dad to son Evan and daughter Seren, and also lives in Newport. Drives on events makes tea, passes the spanners and generally tries to learn from Andy when servicing and preparing the rally car. Ian is in charge of polishing and making the car look pretty prior to events.
Crew Member – Helen Campling
Also helping to raise money for “Help A South Wales Child” is Andy’s wife Helen. Helen is also a member of Forresters Car Club and part of the “Roadside Motorsport” service crew. She plays a big part in the overall running of the team, and is always helping out in the service area keeping all the crew on their toes. She’s also very good at finding and blagging parts off fellow competitors to help “Roadside Motorsport” finish events.
