Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Me & Sami are so very grateful for any donation you are able to spare.

We are 2 sisters (Jenny & Sami), and our story starts in September 2015.

Our Dad had just taken retirement and more or less straight away, he and our Mum went on a road trip round Europe for a few weeks. Upon returning, Dad was complaining of stomach ache which felt a bit like trapped wind, and he had been suffering with this whilst on holiday too. He went to the GP, who prescribed him with something to help with trapped wind. 1 week later and the discomfort was still there so he went back to his GP who told him to get himself up to the hospital. So Mum & Dad went to hospital on that day, the 28th September. 3 weeks later, on the  20th October 2015, Dad sadly passed away having being diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer only 2 weeks before.

Prior to this, we had no reason to suspect that this would have been Pancreatic Cancer. We all thought that it was Gall Stones, so you can only imagine the range of emotions our Dad, and us all went through following his diagnosis.

During Dads stay in hospital, me & my sister did an awful lot of research about Pancreatic Cancer, because up to that point, we had no reason to know anything about it. We have learnt that this is often referred to as a 'Silent Cancer' due to the fact that any early symptoms are so vague and often attributed to something less serious. Pancreatic Cancer has seen no significant improvement in survival rates in 40 years - research is severely underfunded but desperately needed if we are to see any sort of improvement in the survival rate.

The gap in all our lives since dads death is immense and we are truly heart-broken. But we are also sure that we can make something good happen out of all this, and that is why we have decided to walk 210 miles over 11 consecutive days in November 2016 to raise vital funds and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer UK. We are starting off our walk from Brentford FC (chosen because this was our Dads number 1 team and he was a lifelong fan of them) and ending our walk in Grenoside in Sheffield (that's our home town).

Thank you for reading this very short version of how we have come to where we are today, now let's raise as much money as we can and #strideforchange!
