Story

Rob says:

I am running this year's 10K  as a tribute to my close friend Mike Futter who was diagnosed with lymphoma last year. Mike has endured great pain and periods of infection when he was not expected to survive, but, with the support of his friends and family and the dedication of medical staff at QEH, Addenbrookes and Papworth he has battled against the odds and is now in full remission.

Consequently I will be running to raise money for Cancer Research UK in order to make my contribution to helping to find a cure for this dreadful, and all too common disease. If you feel able to support us then please feel free to donate using this page. Thank you.

Mike says:

After a year like I experienced in 2008 you have to ask yourself 'what's life all about?', which of course we've all heard many times before. However when it happens to you its real meaning hits home, big time.

Having had a very successful career and family life along with a relatively good healthy life, I was able to retire at 55 (some 4 years ago) after selling our cold storage warehousing business.

When I was first diagnosed with lymphoma in April 2008 nobody was more surprised than me, as we had no known family history of this awful illness. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever that were it not for the knowledge, skills, and personal dedication of all the medical staff that attended to me (and continue to do so), as well as the wonderful support of my family and friends, I wouldn't be here today.

So if you're able to support us please give generously for this charity by donating using this page.

Lastly I wish to thank Robin for making this generous offer to run on behalf of Cancer Research (that'll cost me a bottle or two of wine).

Mike
