Story

Last year I did a Half Marathon to raise money for the Philip Gould Tribute Fund. Now, months of training behind me, I intend to go one step further and complete my first marathon. All fundraising will again go towards the same Fund.

Though it is three years since Philip passed away memories of him are just as strong now as they were the day he died. I will never forget the resilience, courage and honesty he demonstrated in fighting oesophageal cancer. The work done by the fund set up in his name at the Royal Marsden continues to do excellent work in tackling the cancer that touched so many of us throughout the later years of Philip's life. The fund is focused on research into genetic predisposition to oesophageal cancer and targeted drug responses. Every penny I raise will go towards making more progress

Philip's widow, Gail, and two daughters, Georgia and Grace, remain hugely important people in my life. They remain incredibly passionate about the work done by the Royal Marsden.

On the day I will run as Philip would have expected of me, by pushing myself to the limit. I have trained with his application and resilience in mind and am excited about finally reaping the rewards of all the training on the day.

Like last time I have set up this page specifically for friends of my family and I who knew Philip and I am aiming to raise more money elsewhere from friends and donors who weren't lucky enough to know him but appreciate the importance of the fund set up in his name.

Any donations (no matter how small or large) will be greatly appreciated by myself, my family, Philip's family, staff at the Royal Marsden and, most importantly, by the people that will benefit from a longer and healthier life through the work done by the fund.

I know Philip would have approved of my approach to fundraising. Performance related donations are more than welcome. I have been training with a view to breaking 2 hours 40 minutes.

Thank you for your support.

Rory
