Rosa's year working in an orphanage · 6 November 2016

Project Trust encourages school leavers to spend a whole year volunteering in Africa, Asia, Central and South America. Its unique approach enables volunteers to develop their full potential while immersing themselves in a new community and sharing their skills and interests.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been selected to work as a volunteer for Project Trust in an orphanage in Swaziland for a whole year. It has always been my ambition to help the poorest & most vulnerable and this is a fantastic opportunity to make a contribution which I may never have again.

Project Trust are a charity who specialise in gap years for school leavers, training and supporting young people through eight or 12 months of work and adventure overseas. I am expected to throw myself into the volunteering to make a positive impact in a place where young children haven't had the same chances in life that I have had. I have been brought up in London & Perth, always had a roof over my head, always been supported by my family & friends. Now it is time for me to give something back!

I have been selected to work in social care with children and teenagers who face challenges in their daily lives that those of us in the UK can only dream about. These children are born into their circumstances by pure chance & I can only imagine what it would be like to be abandoned, without a mum or dad or family to look after me. I want to make a difference to their lives and I hope it will change me for the better as well. Ultimately, I would like to make a career in social care when I return home & help young children & refugees.

The sanctuaries I will be volunteering in are for children who are in desperate need of educational enhancement. This volunteer project involves providing a safe, fun and creative environment for these children, giving them the opportunity to develop to their full potential.

If I manage to raise the £6,200, I will be training in June-July 2017 and flying out in August 2017. To help me achieve this target I will be doing a number of charity raising events :

walking up Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis

holding a ceilidh for family & friends

organising a race night

a 'bake off'

I work at Hair.comb in Perth every Thursday evening & Saturday & I will be putting part of my wages to fund this cause.

I have lots of ideas on other fundraising events & I will be dragging my family & friends into help me.
