Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Sometimes you have an idea,

Sometimes you have a dream,

Sometimes you want to set yourself a challenge,

and then sometimes you decide to do something crazy.....

Myself and Matt Enoch are both firefighters on white watch at East Midlands Airport. We are cycling from Lands End to John O Groats on a tandem in 4 days, totalling around 850 miles which equates to around 215 miles a day.

I've always wanted to do LEJOG (its the cool way of naming the ride) and I've always seen it as one of Britain's ultimate challenges. I have competed in many challenge events from long distance bike and running races to Ironman events, so I'm always looking for the next personal challenge. Matt also has competed at the highest level of his sport in speed kayaking, and in doing so has represented his country and also raced the Devizes to Westminster, the ultimate long distance canoe and kayak race.

There are many organised LEJOG rides which would normally take 9 days, you pay an entry, raise money for a chosen charity and get looked after for the duration, but not us....

We have chosen a tandem over 4 days......

Its going to be fun.

The machine of choice is a 1980's Dawes Super Galaxy. It's had a complete rebuild and is now ready for the challenge ahead.

We are tandem novices, how hard can it be.....

We are supporting CLIC Sargent, a fantastic charity that supports young cancer patients and their families, which unfortunately I'm sure we have all personally come into contact with through families and friends. The airport support the charity and it seemed appropriate that we do the same.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
