We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help beat cancer sooner

Charity Registration No. in England and Wales 1089464, Scotland SC041666

When I was 13 years old, my father was diagnosed with Leukemia. He underwent treatment for many years (chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant) and is now thankfully in full remission. It is thanks to charities such as Cancer Research UK, who fund research into developing new ways of treating all types of cancers, that my father is now at the other end of his treatment and going strong. Their continued funding is required to further develop and refine treatments so that even more cancer sufferers will beat the illness.

Over the next few months, I will be preparing to take my Grade 8 exams on the following instruments; Trumpet, Tenor Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Bass Trombone and Tuba. If this seems like a challenge in itself, I will also be attempting to do them all in one day. Extra challenges include the fact that even though Trombone is my main instrument, I have previously never played the Trumpet, Tenor Horn and Tuba before this year and will give myself only 8 months to learn them to a grade 8 standard. This means learning 18 different pieces and taking sight reading, improvising and scale tests etc (in a variety of keys and clefs).

I am hoping to make thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK, which could make a very real difference to peoples’ lives. Cancer Research UK is entirely funded by donations from the public, so events like this really do make a difference.

Even in these early stages of event planning, I have managed to secure support for this event from some very generous companies in the music world. Huge thanks to John Packer Musical Instruments, who have very kindly provided me with 6 of their own top of the range John Packer instruments with which to practice and take the exams on. They will also be aiding in the advertisement of this event and supporting the charity with further fundraising/music ideas.

Denis Wick Mouthpieces and Accessories have also invited me to their factory to endorse their mouthpieces on these instruments. Trinity College London are also supporting the event by providing the exams for free..

Watch this space for blogs, updates, pictures, videos and of course to donate all the cash you can afford.

Thank you very much for your donations,
