Story
COVID19 cancelled the 2020 Great North Run. This race is a sporting and cultural highlight for the North East - that starts just outside the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Newcastle University where we all work. 2020 has been a desperate year for all of us - and so we have organised a rival event to the Great North Run, a tribute - the Slight North Run.
COVID19 then cancelled our run on the town moor! But we cannot be stopped - as a team we will run 150 miles virtually on Sunday September 20th. Using Strava and Garmin will are collecting our miles - and have challenged other centres to beat our time!
The North East has the highest rate of epilepsy in England, 1% of adults here take medication for their epilepsy. But epilepsy is more than just seizures and life changing, life saving research is desperately needed.
Epilepsy Research UK is the only charity exclusively dedicated to driving epilepsy research in the UK. Our pioneering funded research is currently being carried out in over 40 universities and hospitals throughout the country. The projects we fund are of the highest scientific merit and aim to provide help for today and hope for tomorrow. Many of us in Newcastle have had our research supported through Epilepsy Research UK. A life free from epilepsy is possible. The only way to achieve this is through research.
