Story
MATHEW CHRISTOPHER DOOK 20.9.1993 - 7.5.2013.
Everyone who knows me understands why i am doing this. Matty lost his life at 19 yrs old to DKA. He had struggled for many years to cope with his medical condition, tragically and suddenly he passed away nearly 6 yrs ago. I have battled with my own physical and mental health since my ICU admission and coma in January 2013, resulting in many medical and health problems affecting my daily life. I was only home for 3 weeks before Matty passed away, he was the best carer in that time I could have asked for. The loss and huge void in ours lives since he passed away just grows daily....I'm doing this initially for him, but also for myself and to raise as much money as I can for Diabetes UK. It's a huge thing for me to do...and I'm not doing it alone - massive thanks to those who are supporting, motivating and helping me at the leisure centre.
I'm doing this swim in the same pool both my boys learned to swim in, and that inspires and motivates me even more....when I'm swimming I'm visualising Matty there with me.
Every donation, however small, every "Well done" just makes me more determined to complete this. The training sessions have been successful - I've been sending updates to my friends and family after each swim and will continue to do so. It starts 22nd Feb for 12 weeks but I'm hoping to finish it on Matt's anniversary of the 7th May for my own personal reasons.
Dig deep please
