As many of you know, I was due to run the Boston Marathon in April 2020. Due to COVID-19, that, and many other marathons, were cancelled. These are amazing events to raise much needed funds for charities globally. Without them, there are shortfalls for charities looking to support the most vulnerable. 

As such, my family and I decided we would take to the empty streets of London to run (me) / cycle half that distance in support of Womankind Worldwide. The kids got very tired but the London landmarks helped keep them going (Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and several Royal Parks).

Womankind is a global women’s rights organisation working in partnership with women’s movements to transform the lives of women and girls. 

The UN predicts, for every 3 months the COVID-19 lockdown continues, an additional 15 million women and girls will face violence. Currently, lockdown measures are in place in each of Womankind's 5 focus countries: Nepal, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. Womankind's partners are therefore currently focused on emergency work such as:

- Purchasing PPE kits 

- Creating, printing and distributing lifesaving health information to women and girls excluded from local relief efforts, and 

- Funding vital domestic violence hotlines and shelters for women and girls currently at risk

Supporting women and girls during difficult times is extremely important, so whatever you can give would be much appreciated by myself, my family, and most importantly the Womankind partners who are working so hard to reduce the impact of this crisis.
