Story

Hello lovely people!

Thanks for stopping by this page. I am trying to raise money to ensure that victims of sexual abuse and assault have access to the extraordinary support offered by Rape Crisis. For this 10K, I'll be supporting my local centre, Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland (RCTN).

Before I talk about this incredible charity I would like to share that I haven't run since my 2016 sports day when I was forced to take part in the 200m relay. Though we came a respectable second place (it was definitely not because of me), the stitches in my side made me vow to never run again.

I hope what I say next about this charity's work will explain just how important it is to me, and why, 3 yrs later, I have decided to go back on my vow and run a distance that is clearly a lot more than 200m.

Rape Crisis is a charity that provides free confidential care to girls and women who have experienced any form of sexual violence at any point in their lives and I cannot stress the importance of their services enough.

Last year the gov't cut funding to the essential services offered by Rape Crisis resulting in waiting lists that extended up to 14 months. Many waiting lists had to be cancelled altogether.

This is so wrong when in the UK, 1 in 5 women will experience some form of sexual assault in their lifetime, and last year over 150,000 sexual offences were reported to police.

At this moment there are over 6,000 young girls and women still on waiting lists, and many have had to be turned away.

It is heartbreaking for me to think that there are so many suffering in silence. So many are waiting, being turned away, or giving up on seeking help because the current situation means they may never receive any.

No one should be forced to deal with the post-assault trauma, anxiety and fear alone.

By donating to this fundraiser you will help victims get the care, support and encouragement they need and so completely deserve.

You will also get to read weekly updates of my training as I attempt to run nonstop for longer than 5 minutes straight, and who doesn't want to see that !

Thank you for reading this far and thank you for anything you contribute, no amount is too small! You are lovely and I am so grateful :)
