Although it’s not the first thing we tell people about ourselves  any more, most of the people who know us know that our son, George, had leukaemia as a toddler. It was an awful time but the care we received through Piam Brown Ward was amazing and now’s the time for us to try and give something back. 

We will be taking part in the sign Race to the Sea on 29 th October - a 50km/32 mile race from Llangurig in mid-Wales to Aberystwyth on the coast through the Rheidol Valley and Hafod Estate, then along the Ystwyth Way following the river to the sea. The longest distance Sal had ever run before is 10 miles; Rik’s got more experience of endurance events from school/college cross country and his time in the Army, but this is a huge challenge for both of us.

Piam Brown Ward is the Wessex children's cancer unit. They care for children from birth to 16 years old with all forms of cancer. The charity fund is part of Southampton Hospital Charity and all donations to the ward are kept in a ring fenced fund to benefit the children in our care and their families.All donations enhance the experience of the young patients and their families whilst under their care. The charity fund is used for patient, family and staff wellbeing, specialised paediatric oncology education for our staff and research to improve treatments.
