Story

The Challenge

The original plan was to run the just the D-Day Challenge, a unique event that commemorates the 1944 Allied invasion of occupied France on the anniversary of D-Day with a 44 mile ultra-run from Pointe Du Hoc to the historic Pegasus Bridge in a single day.

However with the effects of Covid-19 on charity fundraising I have decided to double my efforts and also run the Race to Remember on Remembrance Sunday, starting from Aldershot Garrison (the home of the British Army) then over the South Downs and finishing at the Royal Navy’s flagship HMS Victory, in the National Museum of the Royal Navy, in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard.

To remember and celebrate fallen colleagues of The Corps of Commissionaires I shall be completing the entire second leg of the challenge in Normandy running in our ‘Full Shout’ traditional military style uniform.

The Purpose

In my work I have been privileged & honoured to have worked shoulder by shoulder with some amazing ex-servicemen.

However, I have also witnessed the challenges some ex-servicemen go through just to get through the day with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or other military related injuries.

The symptoms of PTSD or other military related injuries are often invisible, however they are very real. So I have decided to take on this challenge to raise awareness of a great charity that helps some truly deserving people.
