Story

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Sarah Tan. Sadly, on the 9th March 2018, my mother passed away aged just 64 years old. For some years she lived with the knowledge and worry of her aortic aneurysm. Around 2 years ago it had grown to a substantial level, however due to the area which it was situated it was deemed inoperable. Despite the fear, my Mam spent many of her days putting a smile on other people’s faces. Naturally, all who loved her are heartbroken.

Mam was told that 95% of the time when an AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) ruptures the patient won’t make it to the hospital alive. Unfortunately, AAA’s are also genetic (Mam’s father, and Mam’s son both had aortic aneurysms) – So before long myself and my siblings will have to undergo frequent scans to check we’ve not inherited the same condition.

The University of Leicester are undertaking research that will hopefully develop new treatments and make operating safer. They are also researching the genetic links behind AAA’s.

This condition does not get enough of the spot light, despite the devastation it leaves behind. That is why on Sunday 15th July (Mam’s Birthday) I will be shaving my hair to
raise money for this very worthy organisation.

I know hair shaving is predominantly done for Cancer Charities, however this is close to my heart. However, my hair from the shave will be donated to The Little Princess Trust.

With your help more lives can be saved.

Thank you all again!
