In August 2019 , after a period of excruciating headaches and strange behaviour, I was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour. This news was obviously devastating to me and my family. On September 3rd 2019 I had an operation to remove as much of the tumour as possible, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment. I am now having 3 monthly scans to monitor the tumour development The last one I had in September was thankfully very encouraging. Trying to get back to fitness after the operation I continued running as much as I could. I’ve found that exercise has such a positive effect on both physical and mental health. My daughter Libby has been my rock through this difficult time. She has never enjoyed running like I have but decided that she would encourage me by joining me for a few runs. She was very keen to do something to raise money and awareness for Brain Tumour Research. As a result we decided to set ourselves the personal challenge of running the Indian Queens half marathon together on 20th December 2020. Any amount that we can raise towards defeating this cruel disease will make each step worthwhile. Brain Tumour Research is a UK-based medical research charity dedicated to funding research, raising awareness of brain tumours. The charities vision is to find a cure for brain tumours of all kinds.
