Event: Family Challenge Weekend 2019, on 14 July 2019
We help children with brain tumours to improve survival and quality of life.

Story

On Sunday July 14th 2019, we have 75 children (some as young as 5 years old) walking up Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain. They have been training hard for months now and are challenging themselves to their limit to raise funds for children with brain tumours. OSCAR's PBTC is helping children undergoing treatment for brain tumours right now as part of the SIOP PNET5 trial. Co-funded with The Brain Tumour Charity, the trial aims to find out if children with certain types of tumour can receive less toxic chemotherapy and a lower dose of radiotherapy without reducing their chance of survival.

CEO of OSCAR's PBTC, and Oscar's mum, Marie Hughes, knows
first-hand how much damage can be caused by the standard radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment.  Watch the video of her explaining it all here -

About the charity

OSCAR's PBTC was set up in memory of Oscar Hughes, a 9-year-old who died of a brain tumour in 2014. His journey was heartbreaking yet inspiring. OSCAR's aims to provide support and care to children with brain tumours, raise awareness to help diagnosis and fund research into better treatments.
