Back in October 2020, I undertook training, passed my assessment and certification to join South Central Ambulance Service as a volunteer Community First Responder covering the Bracknell and Ascot area.  Responding from home I've attended over 140 category one and two emergency 999 calls. In most cases ahead of the ambulance to provide critical care and comfort when people need it most.  I'm honoured to be one of the hundreds of CFRs in the SCAS region.

The service is funded by charitable donations and due to COVID19 it's been impossible for the charity to undertake its usual fundraising efforts. It costs £3,000 to fund the kit that a CFR carries and another £300 a year to sustain their activities.

The challenge is to outrun the average miles your local station's ambulances cover in a shift. For me, that's Bracknell and 155 miles. As I'm keen to raise as much money as possible, I'm attempting to go one step or six times further and outrun the ambulances in Berkshire & Buckinghamshire for a total of 979 miles, either by walking, running or cycling.  

South Central Ambulance Charity raises funds to support South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. All the money raised by our Charity is used to fund services, projects and equipment that is not supplied by Government NHS funding. Without the money we raise people in our communities would have to wait longer for help which could affect their recovery. The Charity works across Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire as well as supporting our Patient Transport Services in Surrey and Sussex.
