Story
On Saturday 07th September 2019, a brave team of SCL employees will be gathering at around 6am at Horton-in-Ribbonsdale in Yorkshire to begin the ascent on foot of Pen-y-Ghent (the first peak which is 694metres above sea level). We must then navigate the route down from this first mountain and across the Yorkshire Dales towards Ribblehead where we will then prepare to scale the 2nd peak, Whernside (736 metres above sea level, and the highest of the 3 peaks). From there, we then descend to Chapel-le-Dale before searching the track to Ingleborough Peak (723 metres high). Once the third Peak has been completed, we continue back down to Horton-in-Ribblesdale where we started from. The goal of the challenge is to reach the finishing point within 12 hours from when we left it, all of it carried out on foot only. No vehicles. The total distance to cover from start to finish is 24 miles. A marathon, but one that involves climbing up and down 3 mountains whilst all the time keeping an eye on the map and the clock. It is very easy to stray off course as we will be crossing many different types of terrain and paths, and we cannot afford to lose any time at all, so the team will be undertaking plenty of physical training and route planning over the next few months.
The Team members are:
Adam Nurse, Andrew Morley, David Vincent, David Wootler, Jeremy Cooper, Jodie Smith, John Underwood & Noel Broad.
