Story

Welcome to my JustGiving page. My name is Claudia Burrough and I’m 24 years old. I am currently a master’s student at St Mary’s University, Twickenham.

In November 2017, my mum passed away after a short battle with Lung Cancer and in the space of a few months it felt like my whole life had been turned upside down. I have always struggled with my mental health but this completely knocked me. Sport has always been my outlet and helped me release stress and anxiety. I realised a need a goal to aim for in order to feel a sense of purpose and drive. I wanted a challenge, I decided to combine my love of sport with raising money for Scope. I have personally benefited hugely from Scope’s support through their Scope for Change programme as well as their campaigns and helpline. This charity is crucial to gaining equality for disabled people like me.

In order to raise money I am completing a series of challenges:

Royal Parks Half Marathon (completed Oct 2018 - 2:19:59)

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon (completed Feb 2019 - 1:56:51)

The Big Half (March 2019)

London Marathon (April 2019)

I’ve always liked the idea of London Marathon but actually doing it seemed impossible but I realised this was the challenge I needed and therefore this will be the final and biggest challenge of my fundraising year!!

When I initially signed up for these challenges I was a keen runner, training a few times a week and completing parkruns every Saturday. In March 2018, I started to lose the ability to walk and after months on crutches, I am now a wheelchair user. I am determined that nothing will get in the way of me completing my challenges and finishing the London Marathon and raising more than £2000 for Scope. Not being able to run has hit me hard and made this challenge more important than ever. I will be completing all of the above challenges in my day wheelchair with a FreeWheel attachment.

Thank you for reading my story, you can find out more at www.seetheable.co.uk

Any donations will be greatly appreciated!!
