Event: Trek26 Yorkshire 3 Peak Challenge 2018, on 30 June 2018
Yorkshire Three Peaks is the classic UK trekking challenge. Conquer these three summits in one day and raise money so our researchers can get closer to a cure for dementia.

Story

In 2017 I saw first-hand the devastating impact that Alzheimer’s can have on someone. I watched as the disease worked its way through my Great Grandmother. And I watched as the effects of the disease rippled through my family and brought torment not just to my Grandma, but to all of us close to her.

And I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone. Alzheimer’s is scary, for those suffering from it and for those watching it set in.

Which is why I really do think that the work that the Alzheimer’s Society does is incredible. Not only do they provide support for those living with Alzheimer’s, they also act as a supportive friend for the family members. They work tirelessly every day to find a cure, so that no one else has to suffer in the same way in the future.

And so, I figured that if my Grandmother could remain brave and keep a smile on her face, even in the moments when her Alzheimer’s was at its strongest – then I can replicate that bravery and that cheerfulness while hiking 26 miles across the Yorkshire countryside and scaling three mountains. All in one day. Right?

That day will be the 30th June 2018, which I know is a long way off. But, as if challenging myself to hike a marathon and climb the three highest peaks in Yorkshire wasn’t hard enough, I’ve also set myself the target of raising £500 for Alzheimer’s Society. So, I decided that getting going with my fundraising as soon as possible would be a smart idea.

Which is where you guys come in. Whether you want to donate £1 or £100, every penny really does count when it comes to this charity. And I really will appreciate every donation, no matter how big or small, as every single penny will push me that little bit closer to my £500 target.
