Another Scottish mystery. 4-5,000 years old. Magical, mystical, practical? Roll them, throw them, hold them, display them....what were they for?
These small, carved stone balls are particular to Scotland - 520 have been found, mainly in the north east - only a few have been found elsewhere. They are all similar in size and comforting when held in the hand. They do not appear to be status items given their absence from burial sites. a few are intricately carved with spirals, curved motifs or studs. This latest find is an exceptionally fine and rare carved example.
They have been lying in Scottish soil for millenia. They belong to Scotland.
