Story
A kidney transplant significantly improves the life of a child with long-term kidney disease but it is not always plain sailing. The journey to transplantation, often via dialysis, is fraught with difficulties, both expected and unexpected. The children and their families ride this rollercoaster with a humbling amount of bravery. The impact on the child, their siblings, their parents and their wider family is difficult to comprehend.
The annual British Transplant Games provide much needed joy to our transplant kids and their families. The children get to compete at a variety of sports. Their whole family attends, bringing some relief from the merry go round of medications, fluid targets and clinic appointments (and my nagging!). The Southampton Children's Hospital kidney transplant team 'The Organators' are funded entirely through charitable donations. These donations enable us to provide entry to the Games, transport, accommodation, team uniforms etc. Without the money that I am hoping you are about to donate, this would not be possible.
Please help us give these kids a great weekend of fun, competition and camaraderie.
