Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year has been a strange one! We had planned to complete 5 marathons/ultra marathons, leading to the final event on the 13th November being a 36-hour, as the crow flies ultra marathon from Meriden to Manchester - due to Lockdown 2.0 this event has now been cancelled (along with all the others!). Luckily the event organisers have put on a replacement event called Day Release.
Day Release is an out-and-back 24-hour event, meaning to complete the race we must head out as far as possible and get back to where we started from before the 24 hours is up! The race is measured "as the crow flies", meaning we have to travel as far as possible in as straight a line as possible! We are hoping to break the 30-mile barrier, which will mean travelling around 80 miles in total (there and back).
Alan and I are heading out at 6pm this Friday (the 13th, sorry Mum), leaving Tarporley in Cheshire and heading to Manchester City Centre. The plan is to run through the night, getting to our turnaround point at 4am, then heading home via the same route and hopefully getting back to Tarporley before 6pm on Saturday evening.
We are raising funds for The Good Life Orphanage, a family-run charity who have cared for over 100 neglected, abandoned and impoverished children since 2008. The orphanage has had a tough year from a fundraising and operational perspective due to Covid19, so we're hoping that by neglecting sleep and putting our legs to the test for 24 hours, we can help to make a difference. Every penny goes directly to the orphanage - never towards travel, accommodation or any other admin costs.
