In 2019, GDA turns 100 years old and as part of our upcoming celebrations we are looking for 100 people to take on a challenge to help us raise £20,000...

Story

On Saturday 16th March 2019, a group of children will be heading to Sladebank Woods, ready for a very special sleepover.

There will no doubt be hot chocolates and marshmallows like any good sleepover, but what makes this sleepover extra special is the children will be outdoors. Without tents!

Immersed in the woods in a way they haven't experienced before, the children will explore the various heightened sensory experiences the woods have to offer at night. How much will they actually be able to see? What will it feel like lying on the ground?  How will hearing the woodland sounds at night affect their experience? And of course, does food really taste better when cooked outdoors?!

To help local deaf charity, GDA, celebrate their 100th anniversary, Sladebank Woods are hosting a 'at one with nature' sleepover, and as we've already said, it's going to be tough. The children will be allowed hammocks, sleeping bags etc but they will be closing their eyes to the stars.

This is going to be a BIG challenge for all the children and they would love your support to help them reach their £500 target for GDA.

GDA is a unique charity providing practical and emotional support to people with all levels of deafness. Many people will associate hearing loss with simply not being able to hear, but in fact what truly defines deafness is the daily battles a person has with communication. Deafness is an invisible disability that can be very isolating. Whether a person is born deaf and is a British Sign Language (BSL) user, or they’ve become deaf through illness or age, they will most likely feel the devastating effects deafness can have on their mental and physical wellbeing. GDA is here to support a person, no matter their age, to
become confident with their deafness, whether that’s at school, at home, at work or out-and-about in the wider community.

No-one should live in isolation and with your help we can ensure no deaf person does.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you from everyone involved in the challenge.
